Who We Are

The United American Muslim Association was founded on May 29th, 1980 — born out of a simple but urgent conviction: that Muslims in North America deserved more than makeshift solutions for their spiritual and educational needs. Over four decades later, that conviction has grown into a thriving institution and trusted Islamic Welfare Centre serving generations of believers across the region.

At our heart is the Glasgow Mosque and Girls Madrasa in Newark, Delaware — a place where the call to prayer echoes, children discover their deen, and a community finds its footing together.

Our Foundation

Everything we do is rooted in the light of the Quran and the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ. As an Islamic Welfare Centre, our starting point has never changed: to raise and nurture Muslims who are a genuine benefit — to themselves, their families, their communities, their country, and all of humanity.

We are committed to providing an exceptional Islamic education in accordance with Ahli-Sunnah Wa’l-Jamaah — for every Muslim, regardless of their background or prior access to religious learning. Through our Islamic Welfare Centre, no one should be left behind on the path to knowledge.

Our Vision

UAMA has three important visions that have contributed to each other over the years as a growing Islamic Welfare Centre:

  • To meet the infrastructure and staffing needs that can provide education to all our Muslim brothers and sisters who have a demand for education in our service region.
  • To be the best institution in this geography that is proud of its belonging and affiliation in North America.
  • To strengthen our role as a trusted Islamic Welfare Centre that promotes faith, unity, community service, and lifelong Islamic learning for future generations.

Our Mission

The United American Muslim Association has chosen two main areas of activities as an Islamic Welfare Centre:

  • To teach Islamic knowledge, faith, Islam, and Akhlak-i Muhammadiyyah to every Muslim without exception, without allowing separation and discrimination, while staying loyal to Ahli-Sunnah.
  • Creating physical environments (Classroom-School-Mosque-Masjid-Kindergarten-Hall) where Muslims can fulfill their educational and religious duties completely and consistently through our Islamic Welfare Centre initiatives.

The UAMA believes that a livable world can only be possible with people who have knowledge and sincere commitment (ikhlas). Reaching the religious knowledge and practice that every Muslim should have to the large masses is considered the first step of our educational goals as an Islamic Welfare Centre.

The UAMA acts with the principle of “Every Muslim should be raised in a beautiful way to benefit his environment and humanity by living an exemplary life.”

In order to raise future generations with high culture and advanced knowledge, providing high-standard living conditions for our students is one of our prominent goals. With the qualified human resources created within the body of The UAMA, access to quality education is offered to all humanity, allowing us to reach disadvantaged groups all across the globe.

Our Structure

A professional group manages the NAIF Center, and an elected Executive Committee provides oversight of the organization. The Executive Committee routinely reports to the Board of Trustees, which consists of 17 elected members from various backgrounds. The NAIF Center’s main campus is in Herndon, Virginia, on Dulles Technology Drive. The campus is 12,000 square feet (about twice the area of a basketball court), a place of worship accommodating over 400 attendees, a weekend school for children and youth, and a multi-purpose community hall. An expansion plan is underway on the main campus to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community.
